SEPTEMBER 21--Sony Electronics (Atlanta, GA; www.sony.com/professional) has demonstrated a new CCD network video camera with a built-in Web server. The SNC-VL10 network video camera will allow users to remotely monitor and manage the device over IP networks. It is being designed specifically for business-to-business remote monitoring applications such as security, e-surveillance, and Web attraction. Users will be able to access and view images using standard Web browsers, such as Internet Explorer, without any special dedicated software.
In addition, the SNC-VL10 network video camera is expected to interact with other devices in a network. It will allow up to 10 people access to the Web server simultaneously, which expands its functionality from just a pure image-acquisition device. For instance, the camera could be programmed to send an alert if it detects motion in an area being monitored, or it could buffer a sequence of still images captured at specific time intervals and send them back to base as a file attachment.
