Kinect gets even more “street cred” with a cool robot! The MIT-developed robot uses the visible-light video camera and infrared depth sensor in Microsoft's Kinect device to scan its surroundings, building up a 3-D model of its environment for navigating the surroundings. Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) scientists equipped the robot with a simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) technique that enables it to adjust to changes in the environment.
