Now that the leadership transition at RMA Electronics is complete, Ron Massa Sr. and Ron Massa Jr. reflect on the company's history, ongoing innovation, and commitment to being a good family company.
In this final part of a three-part series, we get a glimpse into the challenges and values of running a family-owned business, focusing on continuity, efficiency, and leadership. Ron Sr. emphasizes maintaining the business primarily for the benefit of the family and employees rather than external acquisition or aggressive profit-driven expansion.
The aim in the near-term, according to Ron Jr., is to continue automating and streamlining operations to improve efficiency and reduce costs while supporting sustainable growth. A third generation, Ron Jr.’s son Ryan Massa, is also actively involved and taking on more responsibilities at the company, including digital marketing and sales.
The Massas talk about the importance of hands-on experience and customer engagement, noting that participation in trade shows and consistent interaction with customers have been instrumental in building expertise and credibility at RMA.
Father and son shared an anecdote involving the supply of specialized lenses used in high-speed automotive crash testing. Despite the high cost and frequent damage to cameras, the lenses themselves proved durable and reliable but spawned some mixed emotions for Ron Sr.
The RMA Electronics story stresses the balance between preserving tradition and embracing change to meet future challenges. VSD is glad we got to help them tell it.
