Sales of machine vision components and systems in North America grew more than 9% in 2013, which is more than double the initially forecasted growth, according to new statistics released by the AIA.
Total sales include the sales of machine vision components and vision systems, which include application-specific systems and smart cameras. Sales of machine vision systems were the major driver of growth in overall sales for the year, having grown at 11%. On the other hand, the total sales of machine vision components remained flat in 2013, but individual components within the category did see gains in 2013, including imaging boards, optics, and machine vision lighting.
Within the next six months, however, growth is expected in the sales of machine vision components, according to Alex Shikany, AIA’s Director of Market Analysis.
"Industry experts believe strongly that we will experience growth in component markets over the next six months," he said in a press release. "There isn’t as much optimism surrounding machine vision systems, however, with the majority of industry experts expecting sales to remain flat through the second quarter of 2014."
Continued growth is expected for the overall machine vision market, as a result of a strong North American economy, added AIA President Jeff Burnstein.
