1st month: 3D machine vision guides robots into action

Dec. 9, 2013

In this article, which appeared in the January issue of Vision Systems Design, we took a look at a number of companies at the VISION 2012 tradeshow in Stuttgart, Germany which demonstrated vision-based robotic systems designed to perform automation tasks. Many of the systems used 3D imaging techniques to locate and analyze objects in a variety of scenarios, including one company that developed a system that automates the process of fish fileting by recreating a 3D image of the fish and using that image to determine the size, quality, and positioning to enable a cutting mechanism to filet the fish.
