David L. Dechow recently joined Arthur G. Russell Co. Inc. (Bristol, CT, USA), a company specializing in automated assembly machinery and manufacturing systems, as Principal Vision Systems Engineer.
Currently a member of Vision Systems Design’s editorial advisory board, Dechow has more than 35 years’ experience in machine vision, computer vision, robotics, and industrial automation, with expertise in areas such as machine vision integration, automated inspection, and vision guided robotics.
“David is one of the most respected and influential leaders in the machine vision industry,” said Dr. Brian Romano, Director of Technology Development. “His expertise spans machine vision architecture, inspection systems, robotics guidance, and emerging AI-driven imaging technologies. Beyond his technical accomplishments, David has spent decades educating engineers and advancing machine vision adoption throughout manufacturing.”
Throughout his career, Dechow has designed and integrated hundreds of machine vision systems, advised manufacturers across diverse industries including automotive, medical device, pharmaceutical, logistics, defense, electronics, and food and beverage, and helped advance the adoption of machine vision technologies. He has also served in leadership and technical roles with numerous organizations, including FANUC America, Landing AI, Integro Technologies, and Motion Automation Intelligence, as well as machine vision integration companies that he founded and operated.

Dechow has also served in education, advisory, and industry advocacy roles. He is currently an instructor for the Association for Advancing Automation’s Certified Vision Professional program and regularly contributes technical content to leading industry publications. Over the course of his career, Dechow has trained hundreds of engineers in machine vision technologies. He was honored with the Automated Imaging Association Achievement Award, recognized as the machine vision industry’s highest recognition for leadership and contributions to advancing vision and imaging technologies.
