@VISION with Chris Mc Loone, Day 2: No Tire Kicking

Day 2 of VISION 2021 has now come and gone, and it’s hard to believe there’s only one day left. The main attraction today was naming this year’s VISION Award winner. The final four runners up were The Austrian Institute of Technology, HD Vision, Prophesee, and Zeiss. The four entries covered event-based vision, inline metrology, and two 3D imaging products.

Entries were judged on technology innovation, applicability, and relevance to industrial machine vision. A jury honors the best innovation from the field of machine vision, and the award comes with prize money of 3,000 euros. The winner of the VISION Award 2021 was Prophesee, which entered its Metavision technology, which provides developers of machine vision applications with a complete solution to implement event-based vision in their systems.

What I repeatedly heard today was that the quality of leads exhibitors are getting at the show is very high. VISION is not the type of show people attend to test the waters or wander the show floor looking for something to grab their eye. VISION attendees are well informed and know what they are looking for when they arrive in Stuttgart. Although it was hard to know what to expect this year, exhibitors are generally pleased with the people they’ve met.

From my perspective, this has been my first VISION. It has presented me with an opportunity to meet the people who have helped me with Vision Systems Design content and to see their products in action. As great as it has been, I’m already looking forward to VISION 2022 and its more traditional format.
