MARCH 12--The US Transportation Security Administration of the Department of Transportation (TSA) has ordered 100 explosives-detection systems, consisting of CTX 2500 and CTX 5500DS models, from InVision Technologies Inc. (Newark, CA; www.invision.com). At the same time, the TSA placed an order with InVision to acquire parts kits sufficient to build an additional 300 explosives-detection systems, also consisting of CTX 2500 and CTX 5500DS models. Together the equipment and the parts kits are valued at approximately $169.8 million.

This order calls for delivery of 100 CTX systems by the end of the second quarter this year. Additional orders for CTX equipment, including systems built from the parts ordered, will be dependent on various factors including future US government-funding appropriations. InVision believes that as additional funding becomes available, the TSA will place orders for CTX systems utilizing the 300 parts kits that are now being ordered.
