APRIL 22--Analogic Corporation (Peabody, MA; www.analogic.com) has signed a lease for a 200,000-sq ft manufacturing facility in Haverhill, MA. The company, which currently has approximately 400,000 sq ft of space at its Peabody, MA, headquarters, requires the additional space to quickly ramp up production of its Explosive Assessment Computed Tomography (EXACT) systems.

Earlier this month, Analogic received an open-ended order for up to 1000 of its EXACT Systems from L-3 Communications. The EXACT is the "heart" of L-3's certified eXaminer EDX 6000 Explosives Detection System. The eXaminer is being purchased by the US government and installed at major airports across the nation to scan checked luggage. This contract, the largest in Analogic's 33 years, has a potential value of approximately $500 million, including spare parts, associated services, and infrastructure enhancements.

Analogic is expanding its work force to meet the demand for explosives-detection systems. The company expects to hire approximately 300 full-time employees by September, the majority of whom will work in the Haverhill plant.
