JULY 9--Adept Technology Inc. (Livermore, CA; www.adept.com), a manufacturer of flexible automation for the semiconductor, electronics, fiberoptics, telecommunications, and life-sciences industries, plans to preview its new MotionBlox multiaxis servo controller at SEMICON West, July 14-18, San Francisco and San Jose, CA. The new motion controller integrates high-level machine control, servo control, servo drives, digital I/O, and safety and E-stop circuitry into one compact package designed to be embedded directly into an OEM's mechanism.

The scalable design of the Adept MotionBlox platform offers a complete stand-alone motion solution for four axes of coordinated motion, with expansion capability to eight axes, including absolut encoder support and complex kinematics solutions. The MotionBlox is also compatible with the Adept SmartController, which integrates multiaxis mechanisms, vision, digital I/O, Ethernet, RS-232, RS-422/485 and DeviceNet.

The SmartController can control up to 24 axes of coordinated motion across multiple mechanisms. The Adept MotionBlox platform also supports the Adept SmartServo distributed motion control architecture, which replaces hundreds of wires and connections with a single cable, using a FireWire (IEEE-1394) based high-speed control bus, reducing costs, increasing reliability, and simplifying installation. Additionally, FireWire and Ethernet connectivity to the PC provides real-time open architecture controls via ActiveX while maintaining the reliability required in industrial environments.
