Compact pan and tilt zoom cameras are mounted on wheel-propelled steerable tractors that inspect storm drain, sewer, and industrial pipelines.
R.S. Technical’s 14” TranStar II (pictured) is a steerable, dual 90 watt motor tractor that achieves speeds up to 70 feet per minute. Its clutch allows rapid freewheel retrieval once inspection is complete. TranStar tractors, which are capable of travelling up to 2,000 feet in a single run, are equipped with cameras that provide the vision system for the inspection process.
The camera, the TrakStar II, is based on the original TrakStar model, but with a more compact size. The cameras feature integrated pan/tilt head with built-in white LED lighting with seven levels of light intensity adjustment. The remote-controlled cameras feature a 70° diagonal field of view, IPX7 waterproofing, a 1/3” CCD image sensor, and an operating temperature range of 32° F - 110°F (0° - 40°C).
R.S. Technical founder and CEO Rod Sutcliff said in a North Bay Business Journal article that the camera and tractor inspection solutions allow engineers to adapt to ongoing industry requirement changes.
“Regulatory requirements are increasing,” Mr. Sutliff said. “Engineers must know precisely what a pipeline looks like inside and exactly where to fix problems. This enables them to set priorities for spending money. There is a lot of pipeline rehabilitation activity going on today.”
