In an article published in March, we covered the unveiling of the Kinect Fusion at Microsoft's TechFest. Kinect Fusion pulls depth data generated by the Kinect for Windows sensor and, from the sequence of frames, constructs a 3D map of objects or environments. The tool averages readings over hundreds or even thousands of frames to create a rich level of detail. Since then, we've seen all types of applications of the Microsoft Kinect, beyond its original use, which was for video games. This includes working toward vision for the visually impaired, helping with sign language interpretation, creating 3D printed casts, telerehabilitation, and much more.
