FEBRUARY 21--Logan International Airport (Boston, MA) is testing Viisage Technology Inc. (Littleton, MA;www.viisage.com) face-recognition solution to continue its efforts to enhance passenger security at the airport. An initiative spearheaded by the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport), Logan International has become the third airport in the nation to use Viisage's face-recognition technology, joining Fresno International Airport and St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport. Viisage, together with Massport and the Massachusetts State Police, worked around the clock to implement this solution quickly and effectively.

The system works to identify known criminals and terrorists. Viisage's approach to security does not focus on "things" that could cause harm, but rather on "people" who are known to pose a threat. The system has proven to be the most nonintrusive and effective method of improving passenger safety, without adding delays, by focusing on the identification of wanted criminals and other individuals known to be high security risks.

The system was developed in conjunction with Viisage's partners, Inforonics based in Littleton, MA, and DynCorp based in Reston, VA.
