New Suite of iToF Cameras Announced

Orbbec, who initially announced a partnership with Microsoft to develop ToF cameras in 2021, has announced the  launch of a new suite, Femto, of 3D indirect time of flight (iToF) cameras. Currently, there are three devices in the Femto line. All three devices have 1 MPixel depth cameras with a 120° FOV and a range from 0.25 to 5.5 m, combined with a 4K resolution RGB camera with 90°FOV, and a 6DOF MU module that provides orientation. All three have a wavelength of 850 nm and all three support a precise trigger sync system.

The following are the three currently in the Femto line:

·       Femto Mega, launched in January 2023, has the NVIDIA Jetson Nano platform to run advanced depth vision algorithms and convert raw data to precise depth images. It has a depth resolution of up to 1024 x 1024 at 15 fps at WFOV and 640 x576 at 30 fps at NFOV and depth FOV of H 120° V 120° (WFOV) and H 75° V 65° (NFOV); RGB resolution of up to 3840 x 2160 at 25 fps and RGB FOV of H 80° V 51°.  It has USB data connection and power input and can operate in temperatures between 10°C - 25°C and up to 90% relative humidity.

·        Femto Mega I, rated IP 65 and especially designed for harsh industrial environments, can perform real time streaming of processed images over ethernet connections. It has the NVIDIA Jetson Nano platform, and in snapshot mode has depth resolution of up to 1024 x 1024 at 10 fps (WFOV) and 640 x 576 at 30 fps (NFOV) in stream mode. Its depth FOV is of H 120° V 120° (WFOV) and H 75° V 65° (NFOV). Its RGB resolution is up to 3840 x 2160 at 25 fps and RGB FOV of H 80° V 51°.  

·        Femto Bolt, which will be available for volume orders in October 2023, is compatible with solutions such as Azure Kinect and at 115 x 40 x 65 mm, has a more compact footprint. It has a depth resolution of up to 1024 x 1024 at 15 fps at WFOV and 640 x576 at 30 fps at NFOV and depth FOV of H 120° V 120° (WFOV) and H 75° V 65° (NFOV); RGB resolution of up to 3840 x 2160 at 25 fps and RGB FOV of H 80° V 51°.  

 These cameras are designed for a wide array of applications, including bin picking, cobot, dimensioning, and other industrial and manufacturing applications.
