German robotics and automation solutions industry revenues will drop by 10% in 2025, according to the latest market forecast from the VDMA Robotics + Automation Association (Frankfurt, Germany), a trade association that supports the German and European machine vision, robotics, and automated solutions sectors.

According to the forecast, the industrial automation industry is expected to generate total revenues of €14.5 billion in 2025, down from €16 billion in 2024. Projections for the three subsectors are as follows:

    • Zero growth is expected for the machine vision market, which is projected to generate €3.1 billion in revenues.
    • The forecast for the robotics market has deteriorated slightly, from -3% to -5%, with expected revenues of €3.7 billion.
    • The automated solutions market is expected to drop by15%, with revenues of €7.7 billion.

VDMA Robotics + Automation cites two factors as contributing to the softening market. First,  robotics and automation solution companies are holding off on investment plans due to current geopolitical tensions. Second, the companies face increasing competitive pressure from Asia.

"The revenue weakness announced at the start of the year has been confirmed in our current forecast for 2025," says Dietmar Ley, Chairman of VDMA Robotics + Automation. "Growth prospects are currently clouded in all subsectors through the end of the year."

More than 420 companies are members of VDMA Robotics + Automation, a trade association within the umbrella of VDMA.
