MARCH 21--The mobile safety robot, MOSRO 1, produced by Robowatch Technologies GmbH (Berlin, Germany), is a surveillance platform for the security/surveillance industry. The robot operates using radar sensors, passive infrared sensors, a CCD camera, fingerprint sensors, and an acousto-optic signaling system. It can detect objects quickly and transmit the related information to a control room; it can even identify humans through walls.

The radar sensor system can provide the exact location of several moving objects by means of neural networks and special electronics. It transmits images in real time at 3 images/s.

By means of Windows-based software, robot management, and a graphical user interface, the control-room operator receives information regarding maintenance, malfunctions, and intruder reports. The operator can interrupt a robot function and navigate the robot to a problem area to identify a detected hazard. The robot can function from -5°C to +50°C and over uneven floors.

As soon as MOSRO 1 detects a disturbance, it sends an alarm signal that gives information about the robot's current position and the activated safety sensor (smoke, gas, radar, or infrared sensor). In addition, robot operation can be changed as to lighting or data. Text messages can be up to 160 characters long and transmitted to as many as 24 robots.

A mobile monitoring system also enables the control of the MOSRO 1 via a hand-held device based on Windows CE. Data are transmitted using radio via wireless LAN or GPRS/GSM technology. The operator can display an overview of the entire surveillance area, area details, and lighting and access times.

Applications for MOSRO 1 target the surveillance of objects over a floor space starting from 900 square meters. For more information, seewww.robowatch.de.
