Power Technology Inc. (PTI), a laser manufacturer, is expanding its US production capabilities for machine-vision laser modules in response to flooding in Thailand. PTI plans to add design engineers and production personnel, and has expanded laser diode inventories to support affected customers.

A number of machine-vision laser modules and diode-pumped solid-state lasers are manufactured in Bangkok, Thailand by contract manufacturers, which have reported 3.5 ft of water in their factories. Thai government officials project that flood waters will not recede for 6 weeks, disrupting the supply chain and the ability of employees to get to the manufacturing facilities.

PTI supplies laser designs that support machine-vision and inspection applications in the biomedical, semoconductor, industrial, and defense and security markets, including laser modules designed for 3-D profiling and mapping, dimensional scanning, high-speed road and rail inspection, web inspection, fluorescence, and illumination.
