Despite how interesting or smart (no pun intended) a particular vision system may be, it's not necessarily always all that "fun." But with this camera football, that's not the case. In an article published in February, we took a look at a throwable camera system that records video while in flight that was developed by researchers at Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Electro-Communications. Because the football spins at 600 rpm, the raw video captured would be an unwatchable blur, but the researchers developed a computer algorithm that converts the raw video into a stable, wide-angle view.
