Last week, I had the privilege of attending the VISION/VDMA press event in Stuttgart, Germany, where leading machine vision professionals gathered to present market data and offer insights as we head into VISION 2026, a biennial event. The first feature in this week's Machine Vision Insider reports on that data as well as on the roundtable. Executives from AT Sensors, Teledyne, Basler and MVTec participated in a discussions that offered high-level perspectives on how to navigate the current machine vision market.
The next highlighted feature explores vision language models (VLMs). Senior Editor Jim Tatum learned from Dijam Panigrahi. co-founder and COO of GridRaster (Mountain View, CA), a company that specializes in spatial AI and extended reality, how next-generation AI technology combines visual data and natural language to analyze and understand visual scenes, reason, and make decisions. These VLMs are gaining traction in manufacturing technologies, including machine vision and robotics.
